2010/2011 Donation Quilt Challenge

9/9/2010 UPDATE: I have gone back to work part-time and am going to have to extend my challenge into next year.  I will make 52 donation quilt projects - it's just going to take a little longer than I had hope.

Welcome to my Challenge! My goal is to make 52 donation quilts this year - one per week - that will be given away to those in need. I have been making quilts for almost 40 years and involved with making donation quilts for over a decade. Taking on this personal challenge has been on my heart for a long time.

Looking around my sewing room right now I probably have enough fabric for more than 52 quilts! These will be simple quilts ranging in size from baby (36" X 36") to youth (42" X 60".) I will also be making Joseph Quilts - bat-less quilts for the homeless - out of decorator weight fabric.

I'm going to try and use up all my novelty fabric and as well as the pieces I just don't like anymore. I plan to clean out the orphan block box. I have a number of UFO's (un-finished objects) that will give me a headstart for a few weeks. The only things I may need to purchase will be another roll of batting and thread.

I have been teaching quilting for many years and have written several patterns and a beginner quilting book. I'll probably use my patterns to start, but will certainly venture out into new patterns as the year goes by.
I hope this schedule will work for me: Sunday - plan, Monday - cut, Tuesday - piece, Wednesday - quilt, Thursday - bind.

Please join me on this quilting adventure - I can't wait to see where this leads - - -
